Allah the Exalted proclaims in the Noble Qur’an:

“Indeed that person has brought himself into happiness and success (falah) who purifies himself (tazakka).” – Quran 87:14

In this verse of the Quran, Allah the Exalted proclaims that Tazkiyah, or inner purification is the only benchmark of true success and felicity for a Muslim.

In the Classical tradition of Islam, the science of this inner purification is referred to as Tasawwuf. It is the Islamic sacred science that concerns itself with curing the hearts of spiritual afflictions and attaining the love and nearness of Allah the Exalted.

This sacred knowledge has been passed down in an unbroken chain from the Noble Messenger (pbuh) through his eminent companions (sahabah) and the generations that followed via blessed personalities who succeeded in attaining this inner purification and passed on this knowledge to seekers of Tazkiyah.

Since Tasawwuf is one of the branches of Islamic Sacred Knowledge; it is integral, complementary and subservient to the sacred parameters of the Qur’an, Sunnah and Shariah. It is the duty of every Muslim to attain Tazkiyah and nearness of Allah the Exalted. Hence it becomes imperative that we seek out those blessed personalities who have attained this sacred knowledge; and who may guide us on the path of attaining true success.
